Cincinnati
The CARD lab is located at the University of Cincinnati, in the Clifton neighborhood of Cincinnati, Ohio. The Cincinnati-Dayton metropolitan region has a rich history in manufacturing and materials science, making it an ideal location for our research – and inseparable from our capabilities.
The Cincinnati metropolitan area is the 28th largest in the United States, with a population of over 2 million people.
Historic architecture:
- Ingalls Building, built in 1903, is the world’s first reinforced concrete skyscraper.
- Cincinnati Union Terminal, a National Historic Landmark built in 1933, is an Art Deco train station that now houses museums and a shopping mall.
- Carew Tower, completed in 1930, is the second tallest building in Cincinnati and features an observation deck with panoramic views of the city.
- Roebling Suspension Bridge, completed in 1866, is a historic bridge that connects Cincinnati to Covington, Kentucky, and was the longest suspension bridge in the world at the time of its completion.
- Music Hall, built in 1878, is a historic concert hall that hosts a variety of performances, including classical music, opera, and ballet.
- Findlay Market, established in 1852, is Ohio’s oldest continuously operated public market and offers a wide variety of fresh produce, meats, and artisanal goods.
- Cincinnati Observatory, founded in 1842, is one of the oldest observatories in the United States and offers public stargazing events and educational programs.
- Cincinnati Museum Center at Union Terminal, which includes the Cincinnati History Museum, the Museum of Natural History & Science, and the Children’s Museum, offers a wide range of exhibits and educational programs for visitors of all ages.
- Cincinnati Public Library, designed by renowned architect Zaha Hadid and opened in 2004, is a striking modern building that offers a vast collection of books and resources for the community.

- Cincinnati Zoo & Botanical Garden: Home to Fiona the hippo and a wide variety of animals and plants.
- Great American Ball Park: Home of the Cincinnati Reds, the first professional baseball team.
